Two Month Check-Up

Today, we had the two month wellness check-up for the girls. Rena now weighs 8 pounds 12ounces and Sophianne weighs 7 pounds 2 ounces. They are growing and we are grateful. They are still quite small compared to full-term babies at two months. We want to continue to see them gain half an ounce each day.

If we look at them in terms of their gestational age, they have yet to reach one month of age since their due date was March 15th. Interestingly, I do see that developmentally, they are "behind" in the sense that they act more like almost a month old babies than two month old babies. They still like to sleep a lot, although they are starting to have more wakeful periods. Rena has begun to smile at people and she even coos a little. Sophianne has yet to smile at people but she's very alert when awake and looks around everywhere.

We were a little discouraged to hear that the worst of acid reflux hits at four months. It's been hard for us to see S in so much pain when she has episodes of reflux. She scrunches, cries, and wakes herself up from her quiet state. We are now exclusively bottle feeding her so that we know how much her in-take is. I think it is helping her. We are praying for completely healing and quick maturation of her digestive system.

 A Miracle
"Do you know that you experienced a miracle?" their doctor asked us. "What do you mean? We are not sure what you are talking about," we answered. The the pediatrician proceeded to share with us about Sophianne's hospitalization shortly after her discharge due to bronchialitis. He shareed with us that he was really worried that she was going down a very difficult path and that she would be hospitalized for a long time--especially given how small she was as a premie. But, when he heard that she had been discharged from the pediatric intensive care unit after only two days, he was shocked. It should not have happened. We know that this miracle had happened because so many people had been praying for her and for us. We thank God!
